Liposuction Postop Pain

Post-op pain after liposuction Mexico is common. You may experience swelling that diminishes with recovery time, bruising which quickly resides post operatively, scars that vary in size which typically fade within a year after liposuction surgery, temporary controlled pain, numbness which may last a few days, and limited mobility depending on the size, type and location of incisions.

Some patients may find themselves in post-op recovery longer than others.

Healing is a gradual process. Your surgeon in Mexico will recommend that you start walking around as soon as possible to reduce swelling and to help prevent blood clots from forming in your legs.

You will begin to feel better after about a week or two and you should be back at work within a few days following your surgery. Activity that is more strenuous should be avoided for about a month as your body continues to heal.

Compressive Garment

After your procedure you will be placed in a compression garment which will reduce the amount of swelling and also serves to compress the skin to your new contours. These new contours will become more evident as your body heals and the swelling dissipates. You can expect to drain fluid from the incisions for the first 24 – 48 hours.

Open Drainage

Open drainage leaves the incisions open after surgery, allowing the excess fluid to escape onto pads. This minimizes the swelling and bruising.

Full drainage takes approximately three to five days to complete. Because the solution contains anesthesia in it, the first day or two may not be as painful as subsequent days, but the pain is usually controlled with over the counter medication.
